Our Mission & Vision

The mission of First Baptist Church is to love God, to love others, and to magnify the name of Jesus Christ. The vision of our church is to glorify our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, to make true disciples throughout all the nations by means of missionary activity and support, to minister the ordinances, to edify believers, and to do all that is sovereignly possible and biblically permissible to magnify the name of Jesus.

FBC Newton Staff

                                       Dr. Brian Rushing, Pastor

My journey to FBC Newton begins with the fact that my parents wanted the very best for me, and fortunately they knew that the very best was Jesus. Therefore, they made certain that I had every opportunity to know Him, and it led to me asking Christ to save me at an early age. My continued involvement in church strengthened my relationship with Him, and during my college years, God called me to full-time ministry as my profession. After college, I married my wonderful wife Paige, who supported and affirmed God’s calling in my life and who has been a tremendous source of strength for me throughout my entire ministry. I attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and during that time of enhancing my biblical knowledge, I served FBC of Bay St. Louis giving me excellent opportunities to develop practical ministry skills. In 2009, God called us to FBC Newton and it has been one of the greatest joys of our lives to serve this wonderful church family. My desire is that you would allow us to help you discover that Jesus is also the very best for your life!

Randy Cuchens
Minister of Music and Sr. Adults

I am grateful to serve First Baptist Church, Newton, as the Minister Of Music And Senior Adults. I have been privileged to be on staff here since February, 1985, and recently celebrated 30 wonderful years in this great church and community.
I am happily married to my childhood sweetheart, Susan McNab Cuchens, and we are the very proud parents of two daughters, Jennifer Wooten (Jason) and Jessica Jefcoat (Josh). We are also the proud grandparents of three very beautiful granddaughters: Hannah Brooke Wooten, Ella Jefcoat, and Avery Jefcoat.
Susan and I grew up in Valparaiso, Florida, where we were members of First Baptist Church, Valparaiso. Both of us graduated from Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida, and the University of Southern Mississippi. I also received my Masters Degree in Church Music from The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I have been a member of the Mississippi Baptist Singing Churchmen for almost 40 years and enjoy serving in various other Church, Association, Convention, and community organizations and roles.
My life verses are Proverbs 3:5-6 . . . “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”  My two-fold desire each day is to KNOW HIM and MAKE HIM KNOWN!  I certainly enjoy my daily worship with the Lord and also the time we spend worshipping together as a Congregation each Lord’s Day.
